What is a Chiropractor?

Many people like to describe a chiropractor as a back doctor. However, this phrasing unfairly limits what they do. Chiropractors do primarily treat back issues. However, they also treat issues with the neck, joints, head, and other various areas of the body. Furthermore, chiropractors do not use pain medication or surgery to treat their patients as most doctors would. Instead, chiropractors use adjustments, stretching, and other physical therapies to reduce the pain and correct the health issues that you may be experiencing. For many patients, this is an excellent option as it reduces the discomfort without risking the side effects of taking painkillers or other medication.

What to Expect from Chiropractic Care

Most of the time when patients go in for chiropractic care, they can expect a three-phase treatment plan. The first phase revolves around reducing pain. During this time, you will likely go in to see the chiropractor multiple times per week to get your back adjusted. These adjustments are designed to reduce the pain that you are experiencing.

From there, you will transition into the second phase, which is designed to repair the injury. At this point, you will start coming in less for the adjustments, down to about once per week. You will also be given exercises and stretches to do at home, so you can strengthen and repair your back between visits.

Finally, the third phase revolves around maintenance. The adjustments will be more limited now, and you will only go in once in a while to make sure that no new injuries or relapses from old injuries are developing.

Everyone suffers from injuries differently, and everyone takes different lengths of time to get through those three phases of treatment. We are here to treat your injuries using those three phases to make sure that you are moving forward during your recovery.
